Day 196: New Haven history

A monument I saw on the side of one of the churches on the green. New Haven is one of the older settlements in the US. It was originally inhabited by the Quinnipiack Indians and then the Puritans arrived in 1638 from Massachusetts.

Day 195: Daylight savings

Ahh, daylight savings time. The pain of waking up when it's dark in the morning is alleviated somewhat by having daylight when I get home from work in the evening. This is the view from my kitchen windows.

Day 194: Art?

Our neighbors have this in their front lawn. Is it a sculpture? Was it a sculpture? Do you think they were all full rings once, or is it meant to be all broken up like that? Enquiring minds want to know.

Day 193: Silly squirrel

I was walking home from downtown this afternoon and I saw a squirrel with what I thought was a piece of bread in its mouth. However, I kept hearing a rattling sound, so I took a closer look. He had actually grabbed a little container of what looked like mints or candy! I followed him for a while to see what he'd do with it. He never did get it open. Silly thing.

Day 191: Drugstore

I took a different bus home today because my usual one was very crowded and so I walked home via a different route. Same street, but from the other direction. This is the little drugstore at the end of our street. I love its retro sign out front.

Day 190: Masala dosa

Tonight I really didn't feel like cooking, but then for some reason, the idea of making dosas popped into my head. We're getting better at making them! They turned out pretty well and were perfect for the cold weather we're having lately.

Day 189: Framed and hung

The subject sounds like it should be describing someone who's been wrongfully accused of a crime, but it's just my Edinburgh print. I'm not 100% convinced that this is really where it's going to hang, but for now it's good. I'm just glad to have it up on the wall.

Day 188: March has come in like...

...a lion, that's for sure. I talked to my mom last night and she asked about the snow that we were due to get. No, no snow here to speak of. Well, as usual, my mom was right. We New Haveners woke up to loads and loads of it. It must have been snowing most of the night and finally stopped today around 4pm. This was a car I saw on the walk home. Poor owner is going to have to dig it out.

Day 187: Envelopes

I recently signed up as a parishoner at church and received the expected packet of envelopes in the mail last month. I don't think they've changed at all in years; they look just like the ones we used to have when I was a kid. There was always a mad rush in the morning before we had to leave for church...'who has the envelope? where's the envelope?' This parish seems to have two collections almost every Sunday!
