Day 183: Ash Wednesday

The obligatory Ash Wednesday shot. When I lived in the Chicago suburbs and then in Chicago, so many people had ashes on their foreheads on Ash Wednesday that no one ever thought it strange in the least. Then in India, where people routinely have ashes or powder on their forehead no matter what the day, again it went unnoticed. Thus it was a very strange experience for me when I moved to the UK and had countless people tell me 'you've got something on your forehead' on Ash Wednesdays.

It was strange when I left the house yesterday and saw all these people with black dots on their forehead. It took a minute to twig people had their ashes. Someone asked me if I had gotten my ashes before stopping by and unfortunately no, it was just Dublin pollution on my forehead!

That's odd...I went to mass last night and they didn't put them on your forehead, they sprinkled them onto the crown of our head and all into our hair.

I'd much rather go back to the ashes on the forehead. I wonder if it was just this church?

Yay T!
Meg, I always got them on my forehead in the UK! Sprinkling on the head sounds kind of odd. Maybe it was just that church.

Never fails. Every year I'm *this* close to telling someone they've got something on their forehead before I realize what day it is. Oy vey.
